This prestigious recognition, given by one of the most renowned international media outlets, is a cause for celebration for the company and the country. On the occasion, the President sponsored the launch of the \"Our Heritage\" campaign, which aims to raise awareness about the need to preserve public assets.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Plans for the construction of the current railway station date back to 1904. It is known that the 1906-1907 Railway budget already allocated a sum of 40,000$000 r\u00e9is for the new building, and it was also known that the plan for this purpose had already been drawn up and sent to Lisbon for approval. In fact, this engineer built a lot, and there's a tendency to attribute a little bit of everything to him, no matter what. However, in our case, there's documentary evidence that it was built in South Africa, due to the difficulties of building it in England during World War Eiffel. However, in our case, there's documentary evidence that it was built in South Africa, due to the difficulties of building it in England during World War I.<\/p><p>Construction began in 1908 on the new station, made of fired brick and cement and with a 51-meter frontage, replacing the original wood and zinc station located a little further downstream, which had been inaugurated in 1895 by Paulo Kruger. Its completion was scheduled for March 19, 1910, and it was inaugurated in an informal ceremony attended by the governor-general at the time. On this occasion, the colony's highest authorities and other dignitaries traveled to the mission of S. As celebra\u00e7\u00f5es do centen\u00e1rio da emblem\u00e1tica esta\u00e7\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria de Maputo contou com a honrosa presen\u00e7a do Presidente da Rep\u00fablica de Mo\u00e7ambique, Armando Em\u00edlio Guebuza, tendo sido na ocasi\u00e3o descerrada uma placa comemorativa alusiva ao evento. Na ocasi\u00e3o, o Presidente da Rep\u00fablica apadrinhou o lan\u00e7amento da campanha \u201cO Patrim\u00f3nio \u00e9 Nosso\u201d, que visa sensibilizar a sociedade no sentido de preservar os bens p\u00fablicos. Os planos para a constru\u00e7\u00e3o da actual esta\u00e7\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria datam de 1904. Sabe-se que, no or\u00e7amento dos Caminhos de Ferro de 1906-1907, estava j\u00e1 estabelecida uma verba de 40.000$000 r\u00e9is para o novo edif\u00edcio e tinha-se, igualmente, conhecimento de que o plano para o efeito j\u00e1 tinha sido elaborado e enviado a Lisboa para aprova\u00e7\u00e3o. Pelo que, repetidamente \u00e9 apresentado pela imprensa da \u00e9poca, estes planos iniciais foram elaborados pelo arquitecto M\u00e1rio veiga, da Direc\u00e7\u00e3o das Obras P\u00fablicas, \u00abajudado pelo Sr. Maroni, um construtor bem conhecido que estava nesta cidade por aquela ocasi\u00e3o\u00bb. Entretanto, Lisboa viria a introduzir profundas altera\u00e7\u00f5es nos planos iniciais. Constru\u00eddo no in\u00edcio do s\u00e9culo XX, aqui se tra\u00e7a a hist\u00f3ria deste bel\u00edssimo edif\u00edcio. Dizia-se, ent\u00e3o, que o seu estilo era \u00abid\u00eantico ao da esta\u00e7\u00e3o dos caminhos-de-ferro de Joanesburgo\u00bb, com a diferen\u00e7a de que a esta\u00e7\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria de Louren\u00e7o Marques tinha um \u00abfrontisp\u00edcio mais vistoso e, no interior, uma passagem comunicando com a gare da esta\u00e7\u00e3o\u00bb. Para complemento da sua eleg\u00e2ncia e bom gosto, est\u00e1 adornada com tr\u00eas c\u00fapulas, sendo uma delas de grandes dimens\u00f5es. A c\u00fapula central, que encima a esta\u00e7\u00e3o, tem sido erroneamente atribu\u00edda a Gustave Eiffel. Na verdade, este engenheiro construiu muito e h\u00e1 tend\u00eancia de lhe atribuir de tudo um pouco, n\u00e3o importando o que quer que seja, mas, no nosso caso, h\u00e1 a prova documental de que a mesma foi executada na \u00c1frica do Sul, devido \u00e0s dificuldades de ser feita na Inglaterra, por conta da 1\u00aa Guerra Mundial. A c\u00fapula central, que encima a esta\u00e7\u00e3o, tem sido erroneamente atribu\u00edda a Gustave Eiffel. Na verdade, este engenheiro construiu muito e h\u00e1 tend\u00eancia de lhe atribuir de tudo um pouco, n\u00e3o importando o que quer que seja, mas, no nosso caso, h\u00e1 a prova documental de que a mesma foi executada na \u00c1frica do Sul, devido \u00e0s dificuldades de ser feita na Inglaterra, por conta da 1\u00aa Guerra Mundial. As obras da nova esta\u00e7\u00e3o, em tijolo cozido e cimento, com uma frente de 51 metros, iniciaram-se em 1908, a qual substituiu a primitiva, de madeira e zinco, localizada um pouco mais abaixo, inaugurada em 1895, por Paulo Kruger. A sua conclus\u00e3o viria a ocorrer a 19 de Mar\u00e7o de 1910, sendo inaugurada em cerim\u00f3nia informal, com a presen\u00e7a do governador-geral da altura. Nessa ocasi\u00e3o, as mais altas autoridades da col\u00f3nia e outras individualidades dirigiram-se \u00e0 miss\u00e3o de S. Jos\u00e9 de Lhanguene, onde decorriam festividades destinadas \u00e0 obten\u00e7\u00e3o de fundos para as suas actividades. Obras importantes viriam ainda a ter lugar a partir de 1913, tendo sido alterada profundamente a fachada, da autoria do arquitecto Ferreira da Costa (autor tamb\u00e9m do edif\u00edcio do \u00abBanco Nacional Ultramarino\u00bb, demolido em 1958, e da 1\u00aa Esquadra, na rua Consiglieri Pedroso). A execu\u00e7\u00e3o destas obras foi administrada pela Sec\u00e7\u00e3o de Via e Obras dos Caminhos de Ferro, sob direc\u00e7\u00e3o daquele arquitecto. S\u00f3 a ornamenta\u00e7\u00e3o do frontisp\u00edcio foi feita sob contrato, ficando sob responsabilidade de Pietro Buffa Buccellato.
