It allows vessels to enter and exit without draft restrictions, 24 hours a day, and does not require dredging. These characteristics make it the largest natural deepwater port on the east coast of Africa.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Opened to traffic in October 1951, the Port of Nacala currently has a general cargo terminal capable of handling 2 million tons annually; it has eight warehouses with a total area of \u200b\u200b21,000 square meters and is served by nine electric cranes ranging from 5 to 20 tons, three 5-ton forklifts, two 40-ton\/hour grain evacuators, and four 2.5m^3 grabs; a container terminal measuring 327 meters long and 15 meters deep, with an annual handling capacity of 30,000 TEU, and 62,000 square meters of paved area for the storage of 2,750 containers, served by four 42-ton forklifts with telescopic spreaders for 20- and 40-foot containers; a 25-ton yard gantry for 20-foot containers; a 22-ton crane and 21 outlets for refrigerators.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Port of Nacala also has a liquid bulk terminal connected to the fuel depots of BP-Mozambique (18,000 tons) and Petromoc (35,000 tons) by a 3.5km pipeline, as well as depots with a total capacity of 2,400 tons for palm and edible oils, from Lever Brothers of Malawi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nacala is a transshipment port par excellence for the entire African coast of the Indian Ocean and was rehabilitated between 1984 and 1996 through financing from Finland, budgeted at 196 million Finnish
